Kathy LaDuca
Christian Education Coach, christed@andrewsmemorial-umc.org

I was hired as the Christian Education Coach October 2007. A coach instructs or teaches someone, helps someone learn a new skill. This is done by starting where people are at and through educating, modeling, encouraging, assessing, and helping people develop a new skill or become more proficient at a skill they already have. That’s what I am here to do. But this ministry is not just about me. Christian Education is a ministry we all need to be about. I enjoy working with members of Andrews to provide exciting faith-building programs. The question we ask is, “Does this program help the child/teen/adult grow in their faith and have a better understanding of who God is and what he is calling them to do?” I hope the answer will be a resounding, “YES”!

Christian Education has consisted of many exciting adventures including Andy’s Camp (VBS), God’s Children a youth fast to raise money for Haiti relief, youth events at the conference and state level, and family learning and fellowship activities, dramas and Sunday School for all ages. I am always looking for new, exciting ways to support people of all ages in their faith journey and encourage them to share their faith with others. Come share your ideas with me.

A little about me - I was born and raised in Albany. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in counseling from SUNY Plattsburgh I worked as a Christian Educator for three years at a Presbyterian church in Plattsburgh. I attend the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia and received a Master of Arts in Religion with a concentration in Christian Education. Following seminary I came to Syracuse, working for a year in the United Methodist church in Manlius before being called to Atonement Lutheran Church, where I was commissioned an Associate in Ministry and served for 17 years. I work fulltime as a Program Manager at Catholic Charities and continue on the roster of the ELCA as an Associate in Ministry. My husband, Chuck, and I are the parents of Ken who recently graduated from college and will be attending law school in the Fall and Jeff who continues in college at OCC.
